We use demonstrative adjectives in Spanish to indicate how far away we find things. For example:
Este coche es rojo = This car is red, indicates the car is close to the speaker
Aquel coche es rojo = That car is red, indicates the car is further from the speaker
When we know to which object we are referring, in place of the demonstrative adjectives, we often use demonstrative pronouns:
Aquella casa es grande = That house is big
Aquélla es grande = That is big ( The speakers already know that they are talking about the house)
Some words that help us choose the demonstrative adjectives are: Aquí, Ahí, Allí = Here, There, Over there
